Induction Furnace Types

What types of intermediate-frequency electric furnaces are there?

How many types of induction furnaces are there for steelmaking?

There are five types of induction furnaces for steelmaking as follows.

1) Power frequency induction furnace

An industrial frequency induction furnace is a type of furnace that uses an industrial frequency power supply (special transformer) for smelting. It is mainly used for smelting various cast iron and cast steel, mainly for the production of castings, capacity of 1.0~100t.

2) Medium frequency induction furnace

Intermediate frequency induction furnace is commonly known as non-vacuum induction furnace. It uses thyristor inverter or frequency multiplier as power supply to increase the frequency from 50HZ (60HZ) to 150~4000HZ. It is an important branch of induction furnace, mainly used for smelting special steel, the furnace capacity is 0.10~40t.

3) Vacuum induction furnace

Vacuum induction furnace is a type of furnace for smelting and pouring in vacuum. The power supply is similar to that of the medium frequency induction furnace, mainly used for smelting special steel and alloys, and the furnace capacity is 0.05~60t.

4) Plasma induction furnace

Plasma induction furnace is a type of furnace that is smelted in protective gas and heated by the plasma power supply and intermediate frequency induction furnace power supply. It is mainly used to produce ultra-low carbon, sulfur, and phosphorus special steel and alloy, and the furnace capacity is 0.5~2t.

5) Boost induction furnace

The pressurized induction furnace uses intermediate frequency induction heating in the crucible under the nitrogen pressure of 0.2~2.0MPa to melt and cast high nitrogen steel containing N≥0.60%. The furnace capacity is 0.05~10t.

Induction Furnace Voltage

Induction Furnace Voltage The induced voltage of the intermediate frequency furnace often exists on the inductor coil, the furnace mouth plate, the water-cooled guide rail, and the furnace body bracket. So, what is the reason for the induction voltage of the induction furnace? Next, we will talk about the induced voltage of the intermediate frequency furnace. When the induction coil of the intermediate frequency furnace is working, when an alternating current passes through the coil, an alternating magnetic field is established in the space around the coil. An induced electromotive force is generated in the metal blank in the alternating magnetic field. We often regard the blank as a closed circuit with only one turn of the coil. When the induced electromotive force is generated, an alternating self-circulating circulating current—eddy current is generated in the circuit. Induction heating is to use the heat energy generated by this eddy current to heat the metal blank. The water-cool...

Troubleshooting of Medium Frequency Furnace

Troubleshooting of Medium Frequency Furnace This article introduces the faults and solutions of medium frequency furnace. 1. Fault phenomenon: large DC current, low DC voltage, and if the voltage, dull equipment sound, over-current protection. Analysis and treatment: the thyristor with one arm of the inverter bridge may be short-circuited or open-circuited, resulting in the operation of the three-arm inverter bridge. Use an oscilloscope to observe the voltage drop waveform of the thyristor on the four bridge arms of the inverter bridge. If the voltage drop waveform of the thyristor on one bridge arm is a line, the thyristor has been through; if it is a sine wave, the thyristor has not been through. Replace the through thyristor; find out the reason why the thyristor is not turned on. 2. Fault phenomenon: when the heavy load cold furnace is started, all electrical parameters and sounds are normal, but the power cannot be raised, and overcurrent protection. Analysis and ...
