Induction Furnace Slag Composition
Induction Furnace Slags are often chemically complex and contain a variety of contaminants from raw metals. Slag can make up about 25% of a foundry's solid waste stream.
Common slag components include metal oxides, molten refractories, sand, and coke ash (if coke is used), among others.
The main metal oxides present in the slag were Fe 2 O 3 (14.30%), Al 2 O 3 (7.89%), MnO (5.06) and CaO (1.49%), and metalloid SiO 2 (66.42).
The actual composition of slag is much more complicated.
Because of the erosive effect of the slag on the crucible material during the smelting process, a part of the crucible material dissolves into the slag.
In addition, the deoxidation reaction products of many deoxidizers are also absorbed by the slag, which complicates the actual slag composition. However, the basic composition of the slag did not change much.
What is the function of smelting slag in intermediate frequency induction furnace?
(1) Protect molten steel to reduce air pollution
During smelting, the slag separates the high-temperature molten steel from the atmosphere. The atmosphere in the steelmaking workshop contains N2, 02, and H, O. These gases are directly in contact with molten steel at high temperatures, and will be decomposed into hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen in ion state and dissolved into molten steel.
It causes the gas content in the steel to increase and reduces the metallurgical quality. In severe cases, the entire furnace of steel will be scrapped.
The presence of slag significantly reduces gas hazards.
(2) Reduce the radiation heat loss of molten steel
According to the heat balance data of the induction furnace, the radiant heat losses of the It induction furnace and the 8t induction furnace through the furnace mouth are 2.9qo and 5.6%, respectively, equivalent to about 18kW-h and 35kW of electric energy per ton of steel. h. Under the cover of slag, a large amount of energy loss can be reduced.
(3) As a medium for metallurgical physical and chemical reactions
Desulfurization reaction, diffusion deoxidation, oxidative decarburization, and dephosphorization reactions can be carried out through slag. In addition, slag can absorb floating inclusions, absorb alloy oxides, etc.
(4) Reduce the oxidation loss of metal
Under the protection of the slag layer, the oxidation and volatilization loss of alloying elements and base metal can be significantly reduced.
Usually, this loss rate can reach la-/o~2%.
In short, intermediate frequency induction furnace smelting slag plays an important role. The use of slag is directly related to the metallurgical quality of steel.
